Why do we need water? Humans can live up to a month without food, but without water, a person might only last a week. Drinking enough water every day helps keep our skin from drying out and becoming wrinkled, too. As well as helping keep all our organs healthy. Remember to drink up! Water's unique properties have been essential in the development of life on Earth – including human beings – for billions of years. All life-forms depend on it for their existence. Water is the key ingredient in all living things. While it combines with oxygen to create water vapour and ice, it is more than just a solvent for food and other products. It is also essential to life itself! Living cells need water to carry out all of their functions, including the way they turn energy into movements of chemical reactions that keep our bodies alive and functioning properly. The human body is made up of 50% water and more than 60% of the cells in your body need plenty of water to function properly. If you are not getting enough water, your body can become dehydrated. We all get dehydrated because of our lifestyles. But if the problem is severe, it can lead to other problems which are harmful to your health. Dehydration can be caused by many things including too much alcohol, eating salty foods, poor diet and smoking. There are very few people who really understand the importance of drinking enough water every day. Science has only just begun to discover that there are two different types of water! Water can be understood in terms of its physical properties or its chemical properties. We have all heard about H2O, or water, but it can actually be made of two different things.
